Design and Build
The AmazonBasics AC2224A sports a sleek, modern cylindrical design in white that blends easily into any room. Its compact footprint (9.6 inches in diameter and 14.3 inches tall) makes it suitable for placement on a desk, nightstand, or floor without taking up much space. Weighing only 3 pounds, it is lightweight and easy to move between rooms. The unit features a touch control panel on top with buttons for power, fan speed, sleep mode, and timer. A built-in LED ring around the control panel changes color to indicate air quality: red for poor, orange for moderate, and green for good. The 360-degree air intake ensures efficient airflow from all directions.
The build quality feels solid for its price range, and the minimalist aesthetic will appeal to those who prefer understated appliances. The power cord is corded electric, and the unit includes a 1-year limited warranty. No additional components are included beyond the purifier itself.
Performance and Features
Filtration and Coverage
The AmazonBasics AC2224A uses a multi-stage filtration system that captures particles as small as 0.3 microns, making it effective against dust, pollen, pet dander, and other common allergens. While the manufacturer does not specify a HEPA rating, the 0.3-micron retention size is typical of HEPA-type filters. The purifier is marketed as ideal for pet owners and allergy sufferers, and its 360-degree intake maximizes air circulation. With a coverage area of up to 1067 square feet, it can handle large living rooms, open-plan offices, or combined bedroom and living spaces.
Smart Sensor and Auto Mode
A standout feature is the built-in smart sensor that continuously monitors indoor air quality. The LED indicator provides real-time feedback: red for poor, orange for moderate, and green for good. In Auto Mode, the fan speed adjusts automatically based on the detected air quality, so you don’t have to manually change settings. This is particularly useful for maintaining consistent air quality without constant attention.
Quiet Operation and Sleep Mode
Noise levels are rated at 32 dB in Sleep Mode, which is whisper-quiet and ideal for bedrooms or nurseries. The three manual fan speeds allow you to choose between quieter operation or faster air cleaning when needed. The timer function lets you set the purifier to run for a specific duration, saving energy. Powered by a 31-watt DC motor, the unit is Energy Star certified, which means lower electricity costs compared to less efficient models.
Controls and Ease of Use
The touch controls are intuitive: a single button cycles through fan speeds, and dedicated buttons activate sleep mode and timer. The LED ring provides immediate visual feedback on air quality, and the display dims automatically in sleep mode to avoid light disturbance. The purifier does not include a remote control or Wi-Fi connectivity, but its straightforward interface makes it easy to operate for all ages.
Maintenance and Running Costs
The manufacturer does not provide specific details about filter replacement intervals or costs. As a general guideline, most air purifiers with similar filtration require filter changes every 6 to 12 months depending on usage and air quality. The Energy Star certification indicates efficient energy consumption, and the 31-watt motor should keep electricity bills low. For exact filter pricing and availability, check the product page or contact AmazonBasics support. Given that this is an Amazon brand, replacement filters are likely to be reasonably priced and widely available.
What Owners Say

Early adopters may want to monitor the product page for emerging owner experiences. The lack of an established track record is the primary con noted by our editors.
